School of Law policies published in this Academic Catalog are effective as of publication and are subject to change.  While the School of Law Academic Policies and Procedures pages are designed to inform students of many of the rules most likely to affect their academic careers, these pages reflect only a subset of relevant rules. Students should also consult:

  • The Northeastern University Code of Student Conduct
  • The Northeastern Graduate Academic Catalog
  • The School of Law Center for Co-op and Career Development policies and protocols
  • Guidance from the School of Law Office of Academic and Student Affairs, including student information handbooks
  • Instructions distributed with each term’s registration and exam materials
  • For students who will seek admission to the bar, rules that control admission to the bar in the jurisdictions of choice

Students relying on published rules are responsible for informing themselves of any subsequent amendments or interpretations by inquiring. When a student has a problem or question relating to their academic career that is not clearly or consistently answered by referring to the above referenced sources of rules, they are responsible for seeking clarification.

No School of Law rule will be amended in a manner that unfairly prejudices a student who has justifiably relied upon it. Amendments may be proposed by any member of our community. Such proposals may be directed to the Academic and Student Life Committee. In appropriate circumstances, input from students will be solicited in a manner consistent with these rules and the existing Law School Charter, which is available on Canvas, the law school’s internal portal.

These rules shall be interpreted in conformity with the accreditation requirements of the American Bar Association, the Association of American Law Schools, and the Court of Appeals of the State of New York.
