Data Storytelling, Minor

Data storytelling has emerged as a popular and innovative evolution of prior approaches to computer-assisted journalism. Datasets are now commonly used in both regular news reporting and deeper investigative work. As part of the ongoing growth of new forms in digital journalism, data analysis and visualization have in part been driven by online and mobile information browsing norms (amid the larger trend of datafication across society).  This minor is designed to prepare students to author data-connected stories that center journalistic norms of ethics while embracing novel forms of media.

Complete all courses listed below unless otherwise indicated. Also complete any corequisite labs, recitations, clinicals, or tools courses where specified.

Note: A student pursuing the Minor in Data Storytelling must complete a minimum of three courses exclusive to this minor beyond the courses required for the student’s declared major(s), minor(s), or PlusOne.
