The USA Patriot Act and similar laws adopted in jurisdictions around the world (collectively referred to here as National Security Laws) provide law enforcement agencies with the right to request access to confidential Northeastern University records on students, faculty, and staff. The university is legally required to provide the requested information on being shown a valid warrant or court order executed under National Security Laws. The Office of the General Counsel has specific processes to evaluate and handle these requests, and under National Security Laws, the student, faculty, or staff member may or may not be permitted to be notified of the request for and release of information. All requests for information under National Security Laws are handled by the Office of the General Counsel. Additional information is available in the applicable Northeastern privacy policy.
