ARCT 1002. Urban Architecture: Composition and the City. 3 Hours.

Introduces the architectural terms used to discuss the buildings that have been constructed in a number of periods and styles throughout Boston’s long and illustrious history. The buildings not only vary widely in age but in style as well—from the austere colonial architecture of Old North Church, to the splendid brownstones of Back Bay, to the postmodern office buildings of Post Office Square. Offers students an opportunity to view some classic examples of the various periods and styles and work on the fundamentals of architectural sketching and design, as well as attempt to craft a design that functions as an elegant solution to a specified set of problems.
